The UK Seasonal Worker visa is the one legal route for picking fruit, vegetables and flowers in Britain without a degree — up to 6 months of horticulture work, plus poultry work between 2 October and 31 December each year. Demand is real and quotas are capped. So is the scam industry around it. Here is how the route actually works.

The only legitimate door

You cannot apply for this visa directly. You must first get a job through an approved UK scheme operator — a small number of companies licensed by the government, listed on GOV.UK. The operator places you on a farm, issues your Certificate of Sponsorship reference, and only then can you apply for the visa. If your country has no operator actively recruiting, you cannot enter the scheme from there — check the official list, not a forwarded poster.

2. Apply only through their official recruitment channels
3. Get your Certificate of Sponsorship reference number
4. Apply for the visa on GOV.UK, paying the government fee directly

What you need

• Age 18 or over
• A genuine recruitment offer through the scheme operator
• Passport valid for your whole stay
• Tuberculosis test if your country requires it

Red flags

Anyone selling "UK farm visa slots" for cash in Nairobi, Lagos, Dhaka or Kathmandu is running the classic version of this scam. Real operators never sell places through street agents, and visa fees go to the UK government only. Also refuse anyone who asks you to surrender your passport at any stage before travel.

Honest warning

Places are limited each year and recruitment windows are short. It is physically hard work paid at hourly rates, not riches — but it is legal, it is inspectable, and unlike the WhatsApp version, the farm and the payslip actually exist.
